About 70% of coronavirus patients could develop protective antibodies
5 May 2020José María Abad has detailed that the surveys, extractions and rapid tests that are included in the study are being carried out, which in a "first round" will end on May 8.
40% of the 4.508 people who have been invited in Aragon to participate in the seroprevalence study that has begun throughout Spain on covid-19 have already been called to be summoned and 15% of those summoned have been seen in health centers.
This was explained at a press conference by the general director of Health Care of the Government of Aragon, José María Abad, who detailed that the surveys, extractions and rapid tests that are included in the study are being carried out, which in a "first round" will end on May 8.
Two weeks later the second phase will be carried out and two weeks later the third phase, so that "until the end of May we will be completing the different rounds of this study," he added.
For his part, the general director of Public Health of the Government of Aragon, Francisco Javier Falo, has commented that "within two weeks" we will be able to have "some data" from this study, the objective of which is to know the percentage of the Aragonese population that has had contact with the virus.
As he said, this "will give clues to be able to prepare for a hypothetical second wave", to argue that "the more people who have had contact with the virus, the better we will do in the second wave, at least in theory, since we do not know how much immunity lasts."
The Director General of Health Care has also referred to the criteria for the use of diagnostic tests agreed and recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), the European disease control centers and the Interterritorial Health Council, according to which , in the current situation "any case suspected of having coronavirus should undergo a diagnostic test and we have tried to transmit that to all centers."
Abad has clarified that this is a test "that is indicated by the professional, it is not a right for its own sake, nor is it done at the will of the person", but, like any diagnostic test, it is a health professional who decides whether it is done. , taking into account "the clinical situation of each patient."
The general director has reported that now "we have the capacity to undertake all the tests that are being requested and to expand them based on the indications made by health professionals", to emphasize that all the tests "necessary to control the evolution of the epidemic and what the professionals indicate".
On the other hand, he commented that currently the percentage of tests that are positive is ten percent, compared to 30 percent in previous weeks, which means that we are in a descending phase of the pandemic.
In his opinion, although "you can never rule out that an outbreak may arise in a work or community environment", the different surveillance systems do not indicate that the outbreak that has occurred in Binéfar associated with two work centers "will be extrapolated to the entire autonomous community".
For his part, the managing director of the Aragonese Health Service, Javier Marión, has specified that there is at least one research group linked to the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences and the Aragon Health Research Institute that works on studying clinical conditions. -of pathologies and drugs that were being taken- in COVID-19 patients and how their evolution has been.
"In a reasonable time, we will provide fairly approximate information about what has happened, which will serve to propose possible actions in the face of new waves" of the pandemic, he maintained.
