Two researchers from the IIS Aragón, nominated for the 2026 Influential Women of Aragón Awards

María Sancho and Patricia Sancho are among the 50 candidates for the third edition of these awards, whose gala will be held on April 16 at CaixaForum Zaragoza.

El Aragon Health Research Institute (IIS Aragón) will be represented in the third edition of the Influential Women of Aragón Awards with the nomination of two of its researchers: Maria Sancho y Patricia SanchoBoth are among the 50 candidates selected for awards that recognize talent, leadership and the capacity for female influence in the autonomous community.

The gala will be held next April 16th at CaixaForum Zaragoza and will bring together more than 250 guests at an event that has become one of the main social and cultural gatherings on the Aragonese calendar. During the event, the winners of the different categories will be announced, and a special award will also be presented to the Influential Woman of Aragon 2026.

Among the nominees for this edition are Patricia Sancho, a senior researcher at the IIS Aragón and a leading figure in the field of pancreatic oncology. Her work focuses on the study of tumor cell metabolism and the search for new strategies to halt metastasis, a key line of research in the advancement towards more effective cancer treatments.

She has also been nominated Maria SanchoA researcher at the University of Zaragoza affiliated with the IIS Aragón, she has been awarded a Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) worth 1,8 million euros. This European support will allow her to lead a project focused on developing nanotherapies to combat metastasis, with potential applications in cancer treatment.

The Influential Women of Aragon Awards are driven by TODAY ARAGON together with the events agency Gibbon and recognize outstanding careers in fields such as business, culture, research, education, marketing and communication, among others.
