The Dona Médula Aragón association has joined the national campaign from March to December 2022 'Solidarity chocolate against leukemia', promoted by Nakoa, a Zaragoza-based manufacturer of chocolate confectionery and sweets.
The objective is to obtain sufficient financial revenue to launch the alternative accommodation service. 'Like at Home', a benefit widely demanded by the sick and their families in different locations in Aragon who have to travel to Zaragoza to be treated, as well as the 'Travel Fund', financial aid for patients who leave the region due to their transplant or other treatments, mainly to Santander, Barcelona o Madrid.
Dona Médula Aragón explained in a press release that admissions for bone marrow transplant or autotransplant require many days of hospitalization. Afterwards, it is necessary to stay a few months in the city - in a home that patients must find - where the bone marrow has been received, to make regular visits. to the hematologist's consultation, and later when they can return to their residences they have to go monthly or quarterly for years to the hospital that coordinated the bone marrow transplant.
Those interested in participating in this fundraising campaign can do so by purchasing chocolate bars that will be made available at the association. There are two varieties: with 70 percent cocoa milk chocolate. The price is two euros each unit.
Dona Médula Aragón was established in 2012 as a non-profit association to help people affected by diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes, among others. that directly affect the bone marrow, and may require a bone marrow transplant to continue living.
