El metastatic triple negative breast cancer It is the most aggressive subtype of breast cancer and has a poor prognosis. But, despite this, patients and families "maintain their optimism and enthusiasm for a future perspective and new treatments that shed some light." And proof of this is the exhibition 'Portraits with hope', a project about the disease that combines art and innovation, which was inaugurated last Tuesday in the Traumatology lobby of the Miguel Servet University Hospital in Zaragoza.
The Minister of Health, José Luis Bancalero, and the manager of the Zaragoza II Sector, Patricia Palazón, inaugurated this traveling exhibition that makes the processes visible of metastatic triple negative breast cancer. The exhibition is an initiative of the pharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences, and has the collaboration of the Spanish Association of Patients with Metastatic Breast Cancer (Aecmm). The head of Medical Oncology at Servet, Dr. Antonio Antón, and Amparo Magallón, representing the patient group, participated in the event.
The Minister of Health highlighted that "the treatment of breast cancer has made significant progress." "There is still much to be developed - he added - but research will help improve survival and quality of life for patients." «In this Miguel Servet University Hospital, a lot of research is carried out, leading clinical trials throughout Aragon and it is done from a perspective of equity not only in our territory but throughout Spain," he concludes.
He has also announced that Aragón is working on two lines. On the one hand, he said, "in early diagnosis", promoting breast cancer screening: "We find a waiting list for diagnostic consultation where this type of patient has been clinically prioritized." And, on the other hand, she has emphasized the research. In this sense, from the Aragon Health Research Institute (IIS Aragón) more than 250 clinical trials on oncology are being promoted, and the 25% of them about breast cancer. Furthermore, Bancalero pointed out, the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences (IACS) is working on a line of artificial intelligence.
Those attending the inauguration emphasized that 'Portraits with Hope' combines patients' feelings with technology. Not in vain, four plastic artists captured the stories of patients diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. A digital phonendo allowed them to feel the heartbeats of the interviewees on their own skin, which they used as inspiration to capture this emotion on canvas.
Among the stories that the panels capture is that of Sonia Vázquez, who summarizes the "hope in the future of oncology", or that of Gema Sánchez, "the living image of perseverance and hope in oncological advances."
