Marta Lalinde: “Childhood cancer research is a great challenge that needs time and resources”
Augusts 27, 2024For the seventh consecutive year, the State Research Agency (AEI) participates as a funding agency in the call on Computational Neuroscience "Collaborative Research in Computational Neuroscience” (CRCNS) launched by the American research agency, «National Science Foundation» (NSF), within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the NSF and the AEI. In addition to the AEI and the American research funding agencies NSF, «National Institutes of Health» (NIH) and «Department of Energy» (DOE), funding agencies from France, Germany, Israel and Japan also participate. Until now, the AEI has funded Spanish researchers in a bilateral consortium with American researchers.
This year, for the first time, the AEI will allow its researchers to participate in multilateral research projects that have an American coordinator. The AEI will finance the Spanish part of the bilateral or multilateral projects presented to the «CRCNS 2025 competition«. Only one Spanish participant will be accepted per proposal financed by the AEI.
Through the CRCNS program, participating agencies support collaborative activities that will advance the understanding of the structure and function of the nervous system, the mechanisms underlying nervous system disorders, and the computational strategies used by it.
Two types of proposals are contemplated in response to this call:
- Research proposals that describe collaborative projects.
- Proposals for sharing data and other resources.
The presentation of proposals will be done in two phases:
- First phase: Presentation of the transnational proposal to the NSF call in accordance with its specific regulations (by the American researcher).
- Second phase: Spanish entities that have been selected for funding in the international phase (the NSF will inform the American principal investigator), must submit an application to the call for applications. PCI 2024 International Collaboration Projects or equivalent. The rules of participation for Spanish applicants must be consulted for reference in the call PCI 2024-1 and in the national annex that accompanies this news.
Applicants' professional background will be taken into account, although both junior and senior researchers are encouraged to apply. Both the originality of the proposal and the feasibility of carrying it out in a maximum of 2 years and within the budget will also be taken into account.
