18 July 2025As the latest developments regarding the IMPaCT Cohort, a new node has recently been launched in Zaragoza, through the IIS Aragón and the Aragonese Health Service, and will be carried out in the Barrio Jesús health center and in the Grande Covián specialty center, with the follow-up of 4000 people.
La IMPaCT Cohort, a pioneering project promoted by the Carlos III Health Institute, plays a fundamental role in the Transformation of health research and improvement of healthcare in SpainIts primary function is to act as a large-scale knowledge platform, allowing the scientific community to access detailed, longitudinal data on a representative portion of the Spanish population.
In figures, this ambitious project makes a Follow-up of 200.000 people for 20 years in 50 primary care centers distributed throughout Spain with the aim of understanding and improving the health of the Spanish population. Its main function is to act as a large-scale knowledge platform, which will allow the scientific community to access detailed and longitudinal data from a representative part of the Spanish population..
More specifically, they are AMBISiON-IMPaCT, IMPaCT-IC y Go-IMPaCT, who have been selected in the Call for Joint Missions of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, aimed at research projects aimed at the implementation of personalized precision medicine. This call is part of the PERTE for Cutting-Edge Health and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, under the umbrella of the Strategic Action in Health (BEA), the main tool for financing health research in Spain, managed by the ISCIII.
Participants, men and women between 17 and 79 years old, are randomly selected from among the patients who attend participating health centers. It is not possible to enroll voluntarily, since the study design requires randomization to ensure scientific representativeness. Thus, these individuals undergo periodic medical evaluations every five years over 20 years, allowing us to study the evolution of their health status and detect patterns related to the development of diseases.
ARAGON AND GALICIA, LATEST ADDITIONS
As the latest news regarding the IMPaCT Cohort, a has recently been launched new node in Zaragoza through the Aragon Health Research Institute (IIS Aragón) and the Aragonese Health Service, and will be carried out at the Barrio Jesús health center and the Grande Covián specialty center. Continuing with the latest additions, from Galicia They have launched several nodes, including the one Vigo, which began recruiting in July of last year and already has more than 130 patients protocolized. To this was added Santiago de Compostela in March of this year, with rapid progress in recruiting volunteers, and more recently, A Coruna has started its recruitment activity.
The Galician participants, like the rest, will be subjected to a complete series of tests These include physical examinations, biomarker analysis, and comprehensive questionnaires, and are re-evaluated every five years. The involvement of primary care centers and the various health services throughout Spain is essential to ensure the success and representation of the Spanish population. In this way, a longitudinal and representative vision of society's health, which will allow us to identify risk factors, develop prevention strategies and, ultimately, improve healthcare.
