18 December, 2019On Friday, December 20, the first Scientists around the World meeting will be held in Zaragoza, where two opportunities will meet, through personal cases: that of developing a research career beyond our borders and that of returning to Spain.
The pre-Christmas dates are a time to return home for researchers working outside of Spain. That is why next Friday, December 20, has been chosen to celebrate the first Scientists around the World meeting. In addition to putting young researchers working abroad in contact with those currently working in Aragon, this year an afternoon session dedicated to professional development, dissemination and networking has been scheduled.
In the morning, several Aragonese will participate in the III Meeting of Young Researchers Abroad, presenting their lines of work in international centers in Austria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom in sessions that will take place at the Biomedical Research Center of Aragon starting at 9.00. In addition, Manuel Serrano, from the Barcelona Biomedical Research Institute, will offer a keynote talk on the reprogramming of cells in vivo.
Pilar Martín Duque, Araid researcher – Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences (IACS) and organizer of the event, points out that "there are many Aragonese who are developing their talent in top-level international research centers and who want to return to their homeland to continue growing professionally; this event was born to make it easier for them to return home. At this moment "there are more than 120 registrations for the morning and afternoon sessions, of which a high percentage correspond to researchers who are carrying out their work in Europe, the US or even Japan."
The main objective is that "researchers of the highest level who do science outside of Aragon get to know us and present themselves to make contact and try to request calls for incorporation." In the afternoon "they will talk about professional opportunities outside and within Spain, both academic and other options."
Starting at 16.30:XNUMX p.m., at Ibercaja Patio de la Infanta, young scientists will present the options that exist for research in Spain, how to do it in non-academic centers and how having worked abroad can benefit their research career. Likewise, scientists from all corners of the world will present their work with posters or one-minute mini-talks.
The concept of the afternoon event, explain its organizers, Ignacio Vázquez and María Tello, researchers from Zaragoza at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, is "to try to put on the table all the professional development options for scientists in any stage of his career."
