October 21, 2019More than 40 researchers participated yesterday in the conference organized by the IIS Aragón, the IACS, the University of Zaragoza, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office and the research platform ITEMS.
What are patents for? Why should we do a patent search before and during a research project? What can be patented and how? These were some of the questions that were answered at the conference that took place yesterday in the CIBA assembly hall and was inaugurated by Ángel Lanas, scientific director of the IIS Aragón and represented at the University of Zaragoza and Fernando Abadía, head of innovation at IACS, replacing Alba de Martino, Director of the Knowledge Production and Innovation Area at IACS. After the opening, Beatriz Tejedor, head of the Search service of the Technological Information Unit of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, presented the different forms and procedures for patenting health research.

The second part of the day was led by Fernando Abadía (IACS Innovation Unit), Eduardo Almenara (Results Management Unit of the University of Zaragoza) and Ester García (Innovation and CSR Unit of the IIS Aragón), who They focused on how patent protection has to be a transfer tool so that inventions can reach companies and become products for Society and how this protection process is carried out from the Units, explaining issues such as who are the agents involved in the process, the importance of patenting for entities and researchers, steps to take when you think you have an invention that could be patentable or the protection strategy for entities.
