12 April 2019The IIS Aragón, in collaboration with the IACS and sponsored by the Janssen company, hosts a forum in which Aragonese researchers, responsible for big data In different health systems, managers and scientists analyze the latest advances in the management of this type of data at regional, national and European levels.
The health sector is one of the fields in which data management is currently having the greatest impact, with applications growing exponentially.
The Aragon Health Research Institute, IIS Aragón, in collaboration with the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences (IACS) and sponsored by the pharmaceutical company Janssen, has promoted the Forum “Use of Big Data tools in Health” that was held today , April 8, in the Lorente de Nó Assembly Hall – CIBA Building.
The forum was inaugurated by the managing director of the Aragonese Health Service, Javier Marión, and the scientific director of the Aragon Health Research Institute (IIS Aragón), Ángel Lanas.
The forum has been divided into different round tables that have sparked interesting debates focused largely on the future of data intelligence in health and diseases from a scientific, technological and computational perspective.
Throughout the day, European projects such as:
- HARMONY, a project of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), one of the largest at European level that is dedicated to hematologic malignancies and that covers all the fields involved in the disease, integrating series of big data with high quality data. The project has already achieved very relevant milestones in terms of data protection and in terms of information sharing or public-private collaboration.
- BIGAN, a project of the Department of Health of the Government of Aragon developed by the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences (IACS) that aims to integrate health information into a technological data platform that makes it easier for health professionals to understand the characteristics of their patients and monitoring their medical practice.
The different experts have agreed on considering data management as a key factor in healthcare transformation and have discussed success stories in clinical practice. Currently, medicine cannot be understood without the full use of technology to understand phenomena, test hypotheses and, ultimately, know the mechanisms that lead to a certain disease.
The value of combining research advances, supported by correct data management through scientific and technological disciplines, allows exploring new opportunities to promote the performance of health systems.
Aragon Health Research Institute
The IIS Aragón is the Health Research Institute of the hospital complex formed by the Teaching and University Hospitals “Hospital Clínico Universitario Lozano Blesa” and “Hospital Universitario Miguel Servet” and Primary Health Care. The University of Zaragoza and the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences are associated with this hospital complex through different legal instruments.
The purposes of the IIS Aragón are to bring together basic and applied, clinical and health services research; create a quality research, care and teaching environment to which health professionals, training specialists and postgraduate and undergraduate students are exposed, as well as constitute the ideal place for attracting talent and the location of large scientific facilities. technological.
