Alberto Jiménez Schuhmacher (Zaragoza, 1980) has a Doctor in Molecular Biology, since 2017 he has led the Molecular Oncology group of the Aragon Health Research Institute, in Zaragoza. He completed his doctoral thesis under the direction of Mariano Barbacid at the CNIO and has published in various specialized journals, such as the prestigious "Science".
He has always been one of the greatest supporters of the figure of the Aragonese scientist. Santiago Ramón y Cajal is the father of neuroscience, comparable to Darwin, Newton, Einstein or Curie. International recognition for Cajal and his work was and continues to be enormous abroad. However, his figure is unknown in our country, despite being the only Nobel Prize in science in Spain (Severo Ochoa received it as an American citizen for his work carried out in New York). But he should not separate himself from his School, three of his disciples (Pío del Río-Hortega, Fernando de Castro and Rafael Lorente de Nó) were able to obtain a second, third and fourth Nobel Prize. Furthermore, Cajal incorporated women into his school and thus recognized them. Something unusual at the time. Cajal is an example of the values of effort, work, perseverance and independence of judgment.
Alberto Jiménez Schuhmacher is the Exhibition Commissioner permanent on Santiago Ramón y Cajal that is located in the Auditorium from the University of Zaragoza. He is also the author along with Begoña Gold of the book "You are so cancer and I am so virgo".
