Health analyzes the feasibility of launching lung cancer screening programs
September 16, 2021Dr. Vicente Polo Llorens, specialist at the Quirónsalud Zaragoza-Biotech Vision Ophthalmological Institute, explains in detail what treatments exist to correct this problem.
Traditionally, presbyopia is corrected with near vision glasses. Many patients who already use distance glasses can be prescribed progressive glasses, which correct the prescription defect both at distance and near. In recent years, a new alternative has emerged which is implantation of multifocal intraocular lenses that fulfill the same function through intraocular surgery.
En This Video, Dr. Vicente Polo Llorens, specialist in Quirónsalud Zaragoza Ophthalmological Institute-Biotech Vision explains in detail what the existing treatments are for correcting presbyopia, what multifocal lenses are and what types there are.
Dr. Polo also tells in detail the relationship between presbyopia and cataract: “Presbyopia is the loss of the ability to focus closely and usually begins after the age of 45. On the other hand, a cataract is the loss of transparency of the lens that determines a loss of vision regardless of whether we wear glasses.”
“It is important to know that when a patient has a cataract and undergoes surgery, they have associated presbyopia. First, because they tend to be older patients and therefore usually suffer from presbyopia. Secondly, because when the lens is removed, the human eye no longer has the ability to see up close, and therefore it is necessary to use glasses for close vision or the implantation of a multifocal lens to correct this circumstance. , adds the doctor.
Quirónsalud Zaragoza and Biotech Vision, 'spin off' of the University of Zaragoza, have launched the first Ophthalmological Institute in Aragon with the aim of be a reference in the prevention and treatment of eye diseases in the Community and which, in addition to the treatment of ocular pathologies, includes an area of innovation and process management aimed at advising ophthalmological centers, companies and professionals.
Un large team of ophthalmologists and optometrists, they explain to us from a close point of view, aspects that provide a global and detailed vision of vision problems throughout life and clinical-care and surgical alternatives.
